Seasonal Palette in Taiwan

Sunday, May 15th, 2016

‘Seasonal Palette’ is a SAQA juried invitational exhibition with the theme of the seasons. To enter the exhibit we had to submit examples of our work to the jury that best exemplified our style. I was selected along 37 artists and each one of us were assigned a season. We had to create a quilt in our style of working. All pieces had to be constructed the same size: 78” L x 32” W. I was assigned Autumn and my quilt was inspired by the many colors Japanese maples display in Fall in our garden. Each artist also included a journal of the process. Those journals are displayed along with the quilts as the show travels.

The exhibit premiered in November 2012 at the International Quilt Festival Houston, Texas and I had the pleasure of attending the opening. A video from the exhibit in Houston is available here. It has since traveled to many places in the US and abroad including Brazil and now Taiwan at the Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition 2016, National Tainan Living Art Center, Tainan City, Taiwan – April 30-May 29, 2016. I wish I could travel as much as my quilts do! You can see images of the whole show on the SAQA website. A beautiful hardcover book is also available for purchase with full images and detail images of each work. Thank you to the wonderful curators of this exhibit, Kathleen McCabe and Vicki Mangum.
