Looking away in the distance seems to be a recurring theme in my work.¬† In 2003,¬† I made another piece:¬† Joyful Meditation¬† (22″ x 18″), picturing people watching fireworks on July 14 (Bastille Day) over my hometown: Toulouse (France).

My Halloween Contribution

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Happy Halloween!  This is the pumpkin carved by my husband, David.  We had less visits from ghosts, witches and supermen tonight.  The snowstorm of Saturday has certainly made parents understandably cautious.  We have lots of candies left!

And here are two pictures of a small piece made with a picture of one of our dogs: Jacquot, taken in 2000.¬† I transferred the photo on fabric and made a fabric frame to remember the great moments spent with this wonderful being who left us 3 years ago.¬† He used to love Halloween!¬†¬† His smile is as wide as the pumpkin’s!

IPad on the road

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

I am back now, but while I was on the road, the iPad (mine is named: iBen)  proved to be an excellent tool for finding directions, learning about local history and drawing while I was in the passenger seat!  The bumps on the road made for shaky lines but it was fun nevertheless!

Earlville Opera House East Gallery

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

I recently went to the opening of a show at the gallery of the Earlville Opera House in Earlville, NY.  I was invited to exhibit with 5 other artists: Natalya Aikens,  Mary Ruth Smith, Elizabeth Barton, Elsie Dentes, and Susan Lenz.  Here are some pictures of the location and the gallery:

Here are a few pictures of the inside of the gallery:

Here I am in front of my two artworks: Units 1: Cityscape and Units 21: Jungle Fever.

I had a chance to see the inside of the Opera house and attend the ice cream social, part of the opening.

If you are in the area you still have time to see the show which closes on July 30.  It is a beautiful exhibit and there are many exciting performances in the  Opera House.

The brightest dot on the block

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

Besides drawing whimsical cartoons on the iPad, I like working with simple geometric forms.¬† Here I used a simple 12″ x 12″ square of black fabric on which I stitched monoprinted small circles.¬† Then I quilted the whole piece traveling from one circle to the other.¬† This is the result and the title was obvious to me: “The brightest dot on the block”.

iPad Sketching

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

I have been inspired by the amazing iPad sketches of fellow artist: Patricia Gaignat and I decided to practice my drawing skills on my iPad nicknamed: “iBen”.¬† I first started drawing with my fingers but soon acquired a stylus, the alupen, that is much easier to work with.¬† Yesterday I went to New York City to have some of my artwork photographed by D. James Dee.¬† I had to walk to the train station, take the train, walk to the subway, take the subway, walk to the photography studio and back!¬† Too hot to be true!¬† I made it!¬† On the way to the city I drew this in the train:

Happy Independance day!
